Community Involvement
The Miami-Dade TPO created the Transportation Outreach Planner to review the social, economic, and geographic characteristics of an area before public involvement efforts are initiated for a project or study. This tool includes an interactive mapping and reporting feature called the “Demographic Reporting Tool”, which is complemented by Community Background Reports and Public Involvement Strategies. Together, these three easy-to-use components ensure a comprehensive outreach effort is accomplished for any area within Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties.
Do you have more questions concerning the Transportation Outreach Planner site? Contact Elizabeth Rockwell by email or at 305-375-1881.
The PPP document is a Federal requirement, which is updated periodically to ensure compliance with newly released federal and state regulations. This update is a result of the Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act. Public involvement (PI) is an integral process with a goal to involve all persons in a community, regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, family or religious status, being affected positively or negatively by a future transportation project.
PI is a two way communication stream aimed at incorporating the views, concerns, and issues of the public into the transportation decision making process, which is on-going in all phases of a project. lt allows the general public to be informed and to be heard. The PPP provides general guidelines for the development of stand-alone, specific public involvement plans for the TPO's required major planning documents, programs, and studies. This affords flexibility to TPO Project Managers to tailor PI techniques and strategies to a community's demographics within a study area.
Staff attends various community events to ensure that the public is provided with an equal opportunity to participate in our transportation planning process.
