Public Safety Announcement

Miami-Dade TPO, in collaboration with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, successfully launched "Next Stop: Transportation 101 Power Hour" in May 2026. This virtual learning opportunity is introducing local high school students to Miami-Dade County’s transportation system, infrastructure planning, and public safety while gathering feedback to help assist in the transportation planning process. Once students successfully complete the course, they earn volunteer hours and certificates from the Miami-Dade TPO Executive Director. The interactive online curriculum takes students through a virtual journey covering the following:

• The Role of the TPO: Understanding how federal, state, and local agencies collaborate on foundational plans like the LRTP, TIP, and UPWP.
• Safety Protocols: In-depth lessons on bicycle rules of the road, helmet safety, and navigating intersections, alongside pedestrian safety data.
• First and Last Mile: Explored connection concepts and the vital role of greenways in separating active commuters from motor vehicles.
• Transit & Careers: An overview of Southeast Florida’s major transit networks (including Metrorail, Metromover, Tri-Rail, and Brightline) paired with a deep dive into future careers in engineering, urban planning, communications, and project management.
